If you are new to Disney planning, and you want to go during the holidays, we wanted to offer a few tips to keep in mind regarding After hour parties, specifically the Halloween and Christmas holiday special events at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

There are 2 different Halloween Parties. The one in Disneyland is Oogie Boogie Bash, and the one at Disney World is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Both of these take place August thru October. Tickets are extra money, so if you plan on buying a park ticket, keep in mind these tickets are sold separately and you HAVE to have one to get in to the event. If you are planning to go to one of these, they cost well over $150 per ticket. So you could be cashing out quite a bit. These DO include park admission at 4PM and after, but not before. So if you want to go to the park BEFORE 4pm you will need to purchase a park ticket for Magic Kindgom.
If you ARE NOT planning on going to the Halloween Party, but want to visit Magic Kingdom, you can do this, but know that you will be kicked out of the park esrly to cater to tuose with the after hours party, so plan ahead and know what days the party is happening when you make your schedule.
If you are planning on attending one of these events, you can arrive 4pm and after, but the party truly starts at 7pm. This ticket includes access to most of the rides, character meet and greets( they will be dressed up for halloween) and trick or treating.

You do receive treat bags but they are pretty small and you get a sizeable scoop ( yes a scoop) full of candy at most of the trick or treating spots. There are maps that show the locations of all the trick or treating spots and characters.
There are also special treats and drinks only offered at the parties that you will not see during the day at MK or DL. These are usually Halloween themed.
You are encouraged to dress up and this is one of the rare times they allow adults (18+) to enter with costumes ( no masks though). You will get a special event wristband to show you have paid for your entrance so if you spend the day in the park, make sure you check in with the cast members ( I think it is at customer service or the gate, ask any cast member for help) to get your ticket, otherwise you will be escorted out when all other park goers have to leave before the party starts.

They usually have a special Halloween parade and fireworks show featuring Villians, Jack Skellington, The Sanderson Sisters, Haunted Mansion and other characters ( Mickey and gang) in Halloween garb.

At Disneyland you will be able to experience a decked out Haunted Mansion in Nightmare Before Christmas October thru December. This is all day and not exclusive to the after party. This is not offered at Disney World. So if you want to see this, make sure you plan a trip to Disneyland.

At Christmas, the after hours Party is very similar. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party tickets are about the same. About $150-$199 a ticket. This is only offered at WDW, November thruDecember. Disneyland does not have a holiday party at this time.
Again you have a special parade and fireworks show, characters dressed in holiday garb, festive beverages and treats and dance parties. There is also special merchandise for these parties you can purchase as well. You can also get special dining packages and photpass experiences.
If you want to purchase these tickets, check the Disney website for available dates and pricing. These parties are not every day. And the closer you get to Halloween or Christmas they get more expensive.
For other Christmas festivities that you can enjoy without a special ticket, check out the decorations at the parks and make sure to visit some of the resorts. The Grand Floridian and some of the Boardwalk resorts have Gingerbread constructions ( the GF has a huge Gingerbread house and some of the other resorts do other objects. I believe the Boardwalk does a Gingerbread carousel)
